A FREE afternoon of family fun is on offer as two Liverpool football teams go head-to-head in a new fixture in support of the Lord Mayor\u2019s Charity Appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A FREE afternoon of family fun is on offer as two Liverpool football teams go head-to-head in a new fixture in support of the Lord Mayor\u2019s Charity Appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Michael Causer Foundation is hosting the first \u2018Home Cup\u2019 clash next Sunday, June 8<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liverpool Homeless Football Club will take on the Mersey Marauders, Liverpool\u2019s gay football team, at Mossley Hill Athletic Club. Family and friends of murdered gay teenager Michael Causer will also be playing in the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Lord Mayor Gary Millar will be in the firing line when he pulls on his goalie\u2019s gloves to face a penalty shoot-out. Celebrity players, food and drink, a raffle and a five-a-side ladies\u2019 match are also planned as part of the fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event begins at the Mossley Hill Road club from 1.30pm<\/strong> and kick-off for the main match is at 2pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the public are being invited to turn up for the event, which also aims to highlight issues affecting Liverpool\u2019s homeless and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MCF also hopes the sporting fixture will motivate young people and promote health, well-being and team work through sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interim chair of trustees Lynn Pates said: \u201cThe event is completely free and everybody is welcome to come along and join us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really pleased to be working with the Mersey Marauders and Liverpool Homeless Football club to present the \u2018Home Cup\u2019. The foundation, set up in Michael Causer\u2019s memory, exists to tackle homelessness, prejudice faced by the LGBT community, and also hopes to motivate young people so they can reach their full potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGiven these aims and what we\u2019re trying to achieve in Michael\u2019s memory, hosting the event is really fitting and we hope to have a great turn-out on Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gay Michael, aged 18, from Whiston, was brutally attacked at a house party in Huyton in 2008 and never recovered from his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MCF was set up in his memory by his parents Mike and Marie. The foundation is one of Lord Mayor Gary Millar\u2019s official charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
